Meet the Hosts
‘The Walnut Tree’ @ 335 Muritai Road
Our Boutique B & B derives its name from one of two huge walnut trees that dominate the bush hillside directly behind our home. We purchased the property in the late 1990′s when it was a small three-bedroom 1917 garden cottage. Since then we have added a garage, top floor and master bedroom wing, as well as extensive landscaping of our bushy hillside section. Although we have added many modern comforts, we have tried to retain the quirks and charm of yesteryear with wooden joinery, leadlights and timber floors. We like to think that our home has character and charm rather than perfection! As a builder’s own home it continues to be a ‘work in progress’ and the extensive use of wood means that there is always ‘something to be done!
About Us
Alan is an engineer-turned-builder who has a small building company which specializes in home renovations and extensions. He is also a creative thinker and dreamer of crazy schemes and interesting ideas some of which may even happen one day!
Jasmin has been involved as a church and youth worker, retail assistant, PR writer, caterer and along with Alan, started and ran her own daytime café in Lower Hutt for sometime. She loves creating spaces that are charming and welcoming and has a love affair with pretty china. She is definitely NOT a minimalist!
We have both travelled extensively overseas and are convinced that the best travel memories come from the times when you can get to meet the locals and enjoy their hospitality. With that in mind it has always been a dream to host our own B & B and enjoy meeting people at our place and sharing some of our wonderful home patch with them.
We have two young adult children. Abby has just completed her training as an Early Childhood teacher; and Sam, is studying Chemistry at Victoria University. He is also a keen drummer and avid Man City fan!- ( drums embargoed while guests ‘in-house’)!
Our two incorrigible and spoilt Siamese cats Mickey & Flynn will also like to meet you. We apologise in advance for their nosiness!
We would love to welcome you as our guests. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further enquiries. jasmin@thewalnuttree.co.nz or phone (+64) (0)45628768, or (+64) (0)274393886.
